User Location Awareness
Apr. 06: As part of our belief in developing a strong & powerful User Experience, we're happy to announce the release of our User Location Awareness feature. This feature brings with it a lot of research on our part. At this point, when a user logs into your community, our system will determine their location based on the IP address they're visting from.
Some of the information collected include country, region, state, city, neighborhood as well longitude and latitude. While there are times where locations are not 100% correct, our system will now correctly identify approximately 98.5% of visitor's locations.
With this we've bundled the option to show a user's location on their profile and the User list page. Showing their country, state and/or city, as well as a flag for their country will send a very clear visual cue to user's as to where a member originates from, or else where they are currently logged in from.
Additionally, as some members may object to auto determining and sharing their location on their behalf, communities can now choose whether or not their members can override this setting. If so, a user can then choose whether or not to show their location which is auto determined.
Our IP technology is updated monthly to ensure new neighborhoods and cities will constantly be included.
